I Played in a Padel Tournament...

What happens when two pickleball players step into the world of padel? Chaos, comedy, and a little bit of success. In this video, I team up with rising pickleball talent Elliott Schupp to take on a padel tournament at Padel39, one of the sickest paddle venues in the country. We accidentally signed up for the wrong division (oops), faced off against high-level D2 teams, and tried to bring our fast-paced pickleball game into a glass-walled universe we barely understood. From wild hands battles to last-minute strategy changes, this one had it all. We faced pros, overcame a brutal first match, and slowly started figuring out how to make our unconventional style actually work. Elliott and I brought our pickleball instincts into the glass cage of padel and quickly realized we were out of our element. From adjusting to the walls and learning the bounce patterns to creating a hybrid strategy of aggressive hand battles and fast net play, it was a weekend of pure growth. We faced high D2 teams, made key mid-match adjustments, and relied on our doubles chemistry to claw our way into the backdraw finals. Our unconventional style — built on speed, aggression, and a complete disregard for traditional padel norms — ended up throwing teams off just enough to snag a few wins. This video also highlights how different padel is from pickleball, especially with its emphasis on walls, lob defense, and shot patience. And yet, there’s a surprising amount of crossover if you’re willing to get creative. Huge thanks to Padel39 for putting on an amazing event.
