This Amazon Basics Pickleball Paddle Is USAP-Approved

The AB-01 appears to be the first USAP-approved paddle from the world's largest online retailer.

If you're looking for quality batteries or trash bags or baby diapers that won't break the bank, Amazon's in-house brand of staple items, Amazon Basics, can be pretty tough to beat.

Well, there's another popular item you can soon add to your online shopping cart along with those paper towels: Pickleball paddles.

On August 5, the Amazon Basics AB-01 pickleball paddle was approved by USA Pickleball. From what we can tell, it's the first listed model to pass from the world's largest online retailer.

Color me intrigued:

• Will these be sold individually or as a set?
• Who are these for? The price (still TBD) will tell us a lot
• Speaking of price, what are we thinking – over/under $35?
• If the face is carbon fiber, these could be halfway decent, especially for beginners/intermediate players
• The Amazon Basics branding is laughably understated, almost like they're trying to hide it...
• The shorter handle will annoy a lot of people
• It's unclear if this is the final design, but it could be far worse
• Many Amazon Basics products come with a one-year limited warranty – will this?
• Are Amazon Basics balls next?

It's worth noting that Amazon Basics is built around the model of seamlessly providing affordable household staples – items you need, and need to replace, on a weekly or monthly basis.

A pickleball paddle, on paper, is not that type of product.

The AB-01 paddle isn't available on Amazon just yet. But you better believe we're getting a few when they are.
